Welcome to the HIAS Archives Project

The American Jewish Historical Society has recently begun a new archives project – organizing and making available to the public the 1500+ boxes of HIAS institutional records, dating from the middle of the 20th century to about 2000.


Over the course of the next three years we will post regularly to this blog with historical information on HIAS and its predecessor organizations; the work of HIAS in resettling refugees from Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa, the U.S.S.R. and other places of population shifts, exile and displacement over the last 50 years; and issues of interest to archivists processing a large collection of primarily 20th century paper records.
